15 Chemistry terms

This is my chemistry glossary. I hope you like it!

Adhesion
Noun
The molecular force of attraction in the area of contact between unlike bodies that acts to hold them together.
Example: One of water's main physical properties is called adhesion.
pt_br: Adesão
Cohesion and adhesion processes.
Alchemy
Noun
The medieval forerunner of chemistry, based on the supposed transformation of matter. It was concerned particularly with attempts to convert base metals into gold or to find a universal elixir.
Example: She practiced her alchemy in the kitchen, turning a pile of vegetables into a delicious salad.
pt_br: Alquimia
Symbols of Alchemy.
Astronomy
Noun
The branch of science which deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole.
Example: I'll have to study astronomy if I want to be an astronaut.
pt_br: Astronomia
One topic studied in astronomy is the solar system.
Binder
Noun
Any substance that causes the components of a mixture to cohere.
Example: Flax fibers are bound together using a thermoplastic binder.
pt_br: Aglutinante
Glue is a type of binder.
Chemical
Adjective
Relating to chemistry, or the interactions of substances as studied in chemistry.
Example: You may search for new chemical reactions.
pt_br: Químico(a)
Chemical reactions occurring on science test tubes.
Cohesion
Noun
The molecular force between particles within a body or substance that acts to unite them.
Example: Resistance, again, is explained by cohesion, which implies binding force.
pt_br: Coesão
A characteristic of water is that it sticks to itself, a property scientists call cohesion.
Combustibility
Noun
Is a measure of how easily a substance will set on fire, through fire or combustion.
Example: The combustibility of the diamond was predicted by Sir Isaac Newton on account of its high refractive power.
pt_br: Combustibilidade
Fire as in example of combustibility.
Density
Noun
Is the amount of mass in a given volume of a substance.
Example: Density is affected by temperature.
pt_br: Densidade
Objects shown with different densities.
Meteor
Noun
A small body of matter from outer space that enters the earth's atmosphere, becoming incandescent as a result of friction and appearing as a streak of light.
Example: Her attention was caught on the falling stars of the meteor shower.
pt_br: Meteoro
A meteor approaching the earth.
Physical
Adjective
Noting or pertaining to the properties of matter and energy other than those peculiar to living matter.
Example: Solubility is one of the physical characteristics of salt.
pt_br: Físico(a)
Some features that may help us identify physical properties
Property
Noun
An attribute, quality, or characteristic of something.
Example: An example of physical property of salt is that its color is white.
pt_br: Propriedade
An example of physical property of salt is that its color is white.
Reaction
Noun
An action in response to some influence or event.
Example: Mary had an allergic reaction to shrimps.
pt_br: Reação
